How was "Art from Wood" created

The story of Ľudovít Ďuriš

Since my early childhood I liked to play with wood, making various toys and amusements out of it, starting with pistols, continuing with swords and ending with objects of decorative character, such as. brooches, rings, etc. for the important female person in my life - my mother, my girlfriend or my sister...

My first metal knife with a wooden handle saw the light of day at this time. Later I took my ambition and love for wood to the next level. While wandering through nature, I not only enjoyed its beauty, but also collected interesting wooden artifacts and remnants of tree trunks. After natural drying, I then prepared them by planing or grinding. I also received some interesting woods from my friends, for which I was eternally grateful not only to them, but also to my wife Anka, for whom I started to prepare wooden bases for drawing and painting.

For me, wood is also interesting in the sense that I make decorative objects out of it, using special surface treatment with natural oils and high voltage burning.

The story of Anna Ďurišová

Anka's artistic talent was mainly realized by painting and drawing portraits on wood and plywood, Ľudovít, as a technical type, made the bases for Anka's work. In their search for a common umbrella for these activities, the two came up with the name "The Art of Wood".

My life has been connected with art since childhood, when I started to draw characters, faces, nature and at the same time I discovered the mysterious world of art through illustrations in story books... they have always attracted me like a magnet, and so I combined my love for drawing with my love for books...

Svoje výtvarné schopnosti som si prehlbovala v Ľudovej škole umenia, neskôr na Šupke v Bratislave …

I have always created something, but only occasionally for myself or for friends...I started to create more intensively after I overcame cancer...Drawing became my art therapy and lifeline...Thanks to it, I overcome the most difficult things...
I get to drawing especially in the evening, when I have absolute peace to work and especially to contemplate...I like drawing women the most, I am fascinated by their mysterious inner world and by themselves.
For a very long time I put my thoughts and ideas on special watercolor paper, sometimes handmade, if I could get hold of it...The breakthrough for me came thanks to my husband, when he brought me a modified board, which was very interesting not only because of its atypical size, but also because of the surface...the color, the drawing of the rings and the interesting spots...I fell in love with the wood and I immediately knew what I was going to put on it....

I use KOH-I-NOOR HARDTMUTH watercolour pencils. These are my favourite, I've been using them for decades and I'm very satisfied with them...
I am very grateful to my husband Ludo for this help, he is my main supplier of wood bases and lately also a full partner in woodworking...
